Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems in the Perioperative Setting

The goal of this panel is to discuss novel artificial intelligence and machine learning applications to the field of perioperative medicine with a focus on autonomous systems. Over the past twenty years, major advances in control engineering and computer sciences have led to the development and implementation of AI and autonomous systems for Anesthesia and Critical Care. These systems have been tested clinically and are being deployed in some parts of the world. This panel will review the systems available as well as the potential for use today and in the future.

Moderator: Maxime Cannesson, MD, PhD
University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center, USA

Learning Objectives:
After attending this panel, learners will be able to:
  1. differentiate between various types of controllers for closed anesthesia systems,
  2. implement strategies to validate and impelment artificial intelligence systems in the perioperative setting,
  3. list the advantages and potential risks of closed loop systems and AI systems in the perioperative setting.
